Wilderness Recovery Center
Recover to live. Live to discover.
Located on a 200 acre apple ranch near Montgomery Creek, CA
approximately 35 miles East of Redding. Within less than a half a day’s
drive to Mt. Lassen Volcanic National Park, Mt. Shasta, and the Trinity
Alps Wilderness Area.
Ranch & Wilderness Programs are key elements
in the treatment of each resident. Ranch property
includes a climbing wall and a running/hiking
confidence course that extends along the one
mile ranch perimeter. Therapeutic day trips
include traditional sports, rock-climbing,
white-water rafting, canoeing, basic water sports
and short campouts.

The wilderness experience includes extended
backpacking or backcountry skiing into rugged
wilderness areas. Self-reliance, assertiveness, a
spirit of cooperation, teamwork, trust in peers,
and being responsible are all actualized on a
daily basis. Healthy risks confront fear and
self-doubt, and foster respect for physical fitness,
health, and the adoption of responsible attitudes
and actions.

Qualified wilderness guides provide personal
counseling and instruction on wilderness living in
a natural and isolated environment. Underlying
personal issues that are often difficult to detect
and confront in confined clinical settings often
unfold during the wilderness trip.
